About Howard
When my career brought me to the Lowcountry almost seven years ago, my wife and I spent a great deal of time deciding where we would live and raise our family. I was fortunate to be provided with a few months of corporate housing off Long Point Road, so I could take a little time to make an informed decision. It didn’t take long to determine that Mount Pleasant was the place.
We chose Mount Pleasant because of the high quality of essential services, the availability of recreation opportunities and programs that we cared about, the schools, and the culture and history of the town. Most importantly, we chose Mount Pleasant because we believed it was the best possible community in which to start a family.
I am committed to my family. My wife Lorrie is a Registered Nurse who worked at MUSC Children’s Hospital before deciding to take on another challenging role: staying at home to raise our three boys. Here is a quick snapshot:
- Married for 11 years
- Father of 3 sons (6, 4, and 1)
- Deacon at Eastbridge Presbyterian Church
- Active cub scout dad
- Software Design Manager at Blackbaud
- Assistant coach for Mount Pleasant Recreation Department (Fundamental Soccer and T-ball)
- Coordinated volunteers for dedication of the Mount Pleasant War Memorial
- Member of Usability Professionals Association and Project Management Institute
- Founder and past president, Lowcountry Auburn Club
- Past president, Mu Delta House Corp (Chi Phi Fraternity)
- Board member of local and statewide historical organizations
Lorrie and I grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, where I was taught to investigate and understand my history and heritage as well as that of the people around me and the community where I lived. I truly believe that we cannot have a comprehensive vision of where we are going as a community unless we understand and embrace those who came before us. That love of history is an important characteristic in how I approach decisions today.
